These could be resolved in the same manner as outlined in those articles.

During Ramadhan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. Fasting during this month is often thought figuratively to burn away all sins. .

What are the dates for Ramadhan in 2010?

As compared to the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadhan vary, moving backwards about ten days each year as it is a moving holiday based on lunar movement. Ramadhan was the month in which the first verses of the Qur’an were said to be revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The name came from the time before the Islamic calendar, when the month of Ramadhan fell in the summer.

In 2010, Ramadhan is expected to begin on or around 11 August 2010 and will finish on or around 9 September 2010, which will be proceeded with Lebaran / Hari Raya Idul Fitri (Aidil Fitri). The new smartphone named Echo, has been manufactured by Japanese manufacturer Kyocera Corp. and features two screens of the size of an iPhone's display. The top screen slides out and can be snapped it into place so that both the screens may be arranged side by side to offer a larger space; which makes it convenient for the user to type e-mails, play games and watch videos. Combined display offered by both screens is around half the size of an iPad, which is still much larger than the display size offered in most of the phones.

Consumers can also use just one screen if they intend to do the same, and alternatively can stretch a visual application such as YouTube or Google Maps across both screens. Sprint also allows the users to display two different applications on both the screens,as they can read e-mails on one screen and type in the reply to the message through an oversized onscreen keyboard on the second display.

The Echo smartphone is powered by Google Inc.'s Android platform, and Sprint has equipped it with an extra screen to make it different from a number of other Android based smartphones. The latest round of leaked documents provides a new picture of how many Iraqi civilians have been killed, a new window on the role that Iran has played in supporting Iraqi militants and many accounts of abuse by Iraqi's army and police, according to The New York Times.

The Times was one of a handful of news organizations that was provided early access to the papers.

According to new documents, the vast majority of slain civilians were killed by other Iraqis.

The U.S. military is notifying Iraqis named in the documents, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell told CNN.

Four Ways to Get Google Wave.Google clarified things earlier today with an update to their blog. They specifically highlighted the four key ways you can secure an invite. Here are the methods and what you need to know:

1. You signed up early on for a Google Wave account. Google put up a request form for Wave invites not long after Wave was announced. Most of the invites arriving tomorrow will go to people on that list. Your chances improve if you signed up early on and wrote a message to the Wave team.

2. You have an account on the Developer Preview of Wave. The Sandbox version of Google Wave has been active for a select group of developers for several months now, allowing them to test Wave, report bugs, and build Wave extensions. They will all get accounts.

3. Some paying users of Google Apps will get accounts. It’s likely several companies asked Google for invites when the real-time tool launched. They will get accounts. Some schools that use Google Apps will also get early access.

4. You are invited by someone currently using Wave. This is the most intriguing revelation made today by the search giant. Here’s how Google explained it:

“We’ll ask some of these early users to nominate people they know also to receive early invitations — Google Wave is a lot more useful if your friends, family and colleagues have it too. This, of course, will just be the beginning. If all goes well we will soon be inviting many more to try out Google Wave.”

Do you know what this reminds us of? Gmail. Do you remember when it first came out and there were a select number of invites users could send out? I remember that people were willing to pay cold, hard cash for one of those invites. You might see the same type of frenzy over Wave.

Regardless, these are currently the only four ways to get an account on Wave. So if you don’t get an invite tomorrow, you still have hope. You’ll probably have to beg someone for an invite, though.

I'm not saying one group is better entertainment than the other — I do like some Mentalist after a hard day's work, and remain devoted to the crispy original CSI. But as far as the effed-up people go, Bryan Cranston's Walt White is my man of the moment, and Breaking Bad's new second season is a doozy of dysfunction. Walt, you may recall, is a high school chemistry teacher using his powers for moral relativism: Yes, making crank and selling it is bad, but at least he's using the profits to leave behind a nest egg for the family when he dies. And that's good, in a twisted sort of way.
The twistedness, however, just keeps on coming. Having established in the first season that Walt, with his dumb-thug former student Jesse (the excellently stupefied Aaron Paul), will do anything, even kill, to make the money he needs for his family, the second season doesn't bother with soul-searching or recapping. Series creator Vince Gilligan (The X-Files) starts off where season 1 ended, with Walt and Jesse cutting deals with the hopped-up, violent Tuco (Raymond Cruz, never over-the-top).
Meanwhile, Walt's pregnant wife, Skyler (Anna Gunn), is torn between sympathy for her husband and frustration over his erratic, secretive behavior. She's also had it with her self-centered, kleptomaniac sister (Betsy Brandt). Gunn's performance is artfully delicate, defined by all the clichés she avoids: never a shrew, never a doormat. And despite the series' one corny coincidence — Walt's brother-in-law just happens to be a DEA agent — Dean Norris' Hank is much less of a macho joke this season, and more of a man under his own weighty pressures of work and family.
Ultimately, Bad is a superlatively fresh metaphor for a middle-age crisis: It took cancer and lawbreaking to jolt Walt out of his suburban stupor, to experience life again—to take chances, risk danger, do things he didn't think himself capable of doing. None of this would work, of course, without Emmy winner Cranston's ferocious, funny selflessness as an actor. Seven Reasons Chrome Could Be Cool
1. It won't crash.

Perhaps Chrome's biggest draw is its multiprocess architecture, which, in a nutshell, protects you from having a bad Web page or application take your browser down. Every tab, window, and plug-in runs in its own environment--so one faulty site won't affect anything else that you have open. This approach also adds another layer of security by isolating each site and application within a limited environment.

2. It's really fast.

Again because of the multiprocess foundation, one slow site won't drag down the rest of your browsing. Instead, you can effortlessly click to another tab or window. With plug-ins, the arrangement works similarly: If you open a site that has a slow-loading Java ad, for example, the Java itself will be isolated and the rest of the page won't be affected. The program itself opens within seconds of when you click the icon, too--a distinct advantage over some slower-loading alternatives.

3. You barely notice it's there.

Calling the design of Chrome's interface streamlined is an understatement. The program barely looks like a program, and the vast majority of your screen space is devoted to the site you're visiting--with no buttons or logos hogging space. Chrome's designers say that they wanted people to forget they were even using a browser, and it comes pretty close to achieving that goal.

4. It makes searching simpler.

One of Chrome's signature features is its Omnibox, an integrated all-purpose bar at the top of the browser. You can type in a URL or a search term--or both--and Chrome takes you to the right place without asking any questions. Omnibox can learn what you like, too--a talent that goes beyond the obvious automatic completion function. Say that you want to use the PCWorld.com search function, for example. Once you've visited the site once, Chrome will remember that PCWorld.com has its own search box and will give you the option of using it right from Omnibox. The function thus automates keyword searches.

5. It gives you more control over tabs.

Chrome gives the idea of tabbed browsing new power. You can grab a tab and drag it out into its own individual window. Or you can drag and drop tabs into existing windows to combine them. Chrome also gives you the option of starting up in any tab configuration you want--whether a custom setup or the set of tabs you had open in your previous session. Other browsers require third-party add-ons to provide this capability.

6. It opens new doors on your home page.

Chrome comes with a default dynamic home page. As you use it, the program remembers the sites that you visit most often. The top nine of those appear in snapshots on your home page, along with your most commonly used search engines and bookmarks. There's no force-feeding here, though: You can override the dynamic home page with any home page you want, just as you can set the default search engine to any service you prefer.

Like Internet Explorer 8's recent beta release, Chrome offers a private browsing option--one it calls Incognito. Marko Calasan, from Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, has become the world's youngest certified computer system administrator.

"I'd like to be a computer scientist when I grow up and create a new operational system," he said.

Marko, whose favourite subject at school is mathematics, learnt to read and write at the age of two, which was when his interest in computers began.

The news of his achievement has turned him into a celebrity in Macedonia.

His mother Radica, 37, said that her son displayed "exceptional learning abilities at a very early age" and that she and her husband, who run a computer school, call on Marko to help solve technical problems when they crop up.

"He is obviously extraordinary gifted, but children above the age of six could learn much more about computers than generally assumed," she said.

Marko is also fascinated by physics and astronomy and struggled to sleep the night before the launch of the Big Bang experiment at the underground facility of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research in Switzerland.

Marko said: "The media said it could cause the end of the world, but there was never any danger of that."

Nominasi Piala Oscar 2009 Get set for the 81st annual Academy Awards to air live from Hollywood at the Kodak Theatre on February 22, 2009 on ABC at 8 PM ET.

This year's host is "Australia" star and Sexiest Man of the Year, Hugh Jackman.

Oscar nominees are usually revealed on a Tuesday about four weeks before the live ceremony, but In 2009 that particular Tuesday was Inauguration Day on January 20.

So this year nominees were announced on Thursday, January 22 with the Oscar ceremonies airing live on Sunday, February 22, the earliest ever.

One young actor gave his last major (and now very haunting) Hollywood film appearance — with universal praise for the over-the-edge performance by Heath Ledger as The Joker in Dark Knight.

Ledger has already won for Best Supporting Actor at the 2009 Golden Globes, and the Critics Choice Awards, usually an accurate harbinger of what's to come from Oscar voters.

Other notable actors nominated for posthumous Oscars include James Dean with two acting nods after he fatally crashed his Porsche on September 30, 1955. He later received nominations for Best Actor in 1955 in East of Eden (1955) and for Giant (1956).

The first and only actor to actually win a posthumous Oscar was Peter Finch in 1977 for his best actor performance in Network (crying the immortal, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!")

Obama Takes Oath

The surprise moment came in response to Tuesday's much-noticed stumble, when Roberts got the words of the oath a little off, which prompted Obama to do so, too.

Don't worry, the White House says: Obama has still been president since noon on Inauguration Day.

Nevertheless, Obama and Roberts went through the drill again out of what White House counsel Greg Craig called "an abundance of caution."

A quieter setting
This time, the scene was the White House Map Room in front of a small group of reporters, not the Capitol platform before the whole watching world.

"We decided that because it was so much fun ...," Obama joked to reporters who followed press secretary Robert Gibbs into the room. No TV camera crews or news photographers were allowed in.

Roberts put on his black robe.

"Are you ready to take the oath?" he said.

"Yes, I am," Obama said. "And we're going to do it very slowly."

Roberts then led Obama through the oath without any missteps.

The president said he did not have his Bible with him, but that the oath was binding anyway.

The original, bungled version on Tuesday caught observers by surprise and then got replayed on cable news shows.

It happened when Obama interrupted Roberts midway through the opening line, in which the president repeats his name and solemnly swears.

Next in the oath is the phrase " ... that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States." But Roberts rearranged the order of the words, not saying "faithfully" until after "president of the United States."

That appeared to throw Obama off. He stopped abruptly at the word "execute."

Recognizing something was off, Roberts then repeated the phrase, putting "faithfully" in the right place but without repeating "execute."

But Obama then repeated Roberts' original, incorrect version: "... the office of president of the United States faithfully."

Craig, the White House lawyer, said in a statement Wednesday evening: "We believe the oath of office was administered effectively and that the president was sworn in appropriately yesterday. Yet the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of the abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath a second time."

The Constitution is clear about the exact wording of the oath and as a result, some constitutional experts have said that a do-over probably wasn't necessary but also couldn't hurt. Two other previous presidents have repeated the oath because of similar issues, Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur.

Popchips has reinvented the potato chip, and we love it. Oh, Susan Boyle, you little minx; why can't I get enough of you? Unsatisfied with avalanche of coverage this Scottish phenom has already received, I turned to the sultan of softball questions Friday to see if he could possibly unearth any new tidbits about the 47-year-old woman who brought down the roof last week on Britian's version of American Idol.

Sadly for we Boyle fans, Larry King made us sit through an excruciating 45 minutes of vapid chatter about Twitter and King's competition with Ashton Kutcher (or "Oshton," as he called him) for one million followers. I thought we'd never get to Boyle -- but then there she was, in all her un-tweezed glory. And wearing Wilma Flintstone beads, to boot!

Granted I could barely understand some of the things she said (her "courage" sounded a lot like cottage) but it was positively delightful to hear her giggle over Simon Cowell wanting to make her a recording star. But then she spoke in all seriousness about not wanting to change her appearance because, after all, we're talking about her identity here! And eat your heart out, Celine "I punch my chest for emphasis" Dion: Boyle ended her all-too-brief appearance with a breathtaking rendition of "My heart will go on." Encore, I say! Encore!

So where will she do it, Boyle fans? How many days will pass before we see Diane Sawyer beat out Baba Wawa for the exclusive tell-all in primetime? Will you watch if she does? Or are you (gasp!) done with Boyle-mania?

Petitioner, Lulu B. McGee, recovered a judgment in a California state court against respondent, International Life Insurance Company, on a contract of insurance. Respondent was not served with process in California but by registered mail at its principal place of business in Texas. The California court based its jurisdiction on a state statute which subjects foreign corporations to suit in California on insurance contracts with residents of that State even though such corporations cannot be served with process within its borders.1

Unable to collect the judgment in California petitioner went to Texas where she filed suit on the judgment in a Texas court. But the Texas courts refused to enforce her judgment holding it was void under the Fourteenth Amendment because service of process outside California could not give the courts of that State jurisdiction over respondent. 288 S.W.2d 579. Since the case raised important questions, not only to California but to other States which have similar laws, we granted certiorari. 352 U.S. 924, 77 S.Ct. 239, 1 L.Ed.2d 160. It is not controverted that if the California court properly exercised jurisdiction over respondent the Texas courts erred in refusing to give its judgment full faith and credit. 28 U.S.C. § 1738, 28 U.S.C.A. § 1738.

The material facts are relatively simple. In 1944, Lowell Franklin, a resident of California, purchased a life insurance policy from the Empire Mutual Insurance Company, an Arizona corporation. In 1948 the respondent agreed with Empire Mutual to assume its insurance obligations. Respondent then mailed a reinsurance certificate to Franklin in California offering to insure him in accordance with the terms of the policy he held with Empire Mutual. He accepted this offer and from that time until his death in 1950 paid premiums by mail from his California home to respondent's Texas office. Petitioner Franklin's mother, was the beneficiary under the policy. She sent proofs of his death to the respondent but it refused to pay claiming that he had committed suicide. It appears that neither Empire Mutual nor respondent has ever had any office or agent in California. And so far as the record before us shows, respondent has never solicited or done any insurance business in California apart from the policy involved here.

Since Pennoyer v. Neff, 95 U.S. 714, 24 L.Ed. 565, this Court has held that the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment places some limit on the power of state courts to enter binding judgments against persons not served with process within their boundaries. But just where this line of limitation falls has been the subject of prolific controversy, particularly with respect to foreign corporations. In a continuing process of evolution this Court accepted and then abandoned 'consent,' 'doing business,' and 'presence' as the standard for measuring the extent of state judicial power over such corporations. See Henderson, The Position of Foreign Corporations in American Constitutional Law, c. V. More recently in International Shoe Co. v. State of Washington, 326 U.S. 310, 66 S.Ct. 154, 90 L.Ed. 95, the Court decided that 'due process requires only that in order to subject a defendant to a judgment in personam, if he be not present within the territory of the forum, he have certain minimum contacts with it such that the maintenance of the suit does not offend 'traditional notions of fair play and substantial justice." Id., 326 U.S. at page 316, 66 S.Ct. at page 158.

Looking back over this long history of litigation a trend is clearly discernible toward expanding the permissible scope of state jurisdiction over foreign corporations and other nonresidents. In part this is attributable to the fundamental transformation of our national economy over the years. Today many commercial transactions touch two or more States and may involve parties separated by the full continent. With this increasing nationalization of commerce has come a great increase in the amount of business conducted by mail across state lines. At the same time modern transportation and communication have made it much less burdensome for a party sued to defend himself in a State where he engages in economic activity.

Turning to this case we think it apparent that the Due Process Clause did not preclude the California court from entering a judgment binding on respondent. It is sufficient for purposes of due process that the suit was based on a contract which had substantial connection with that State. Cf. Hess v. Pawloski, 274 U.S. 352, 47 S.Ct. 632, 71 L.Ed. 1091; Henry L. Doherty & Co. v. Goodman, 294 U.S. 623, 55 S.Ct. 553, 79 L.Ed. 1097; Pennoyer v. Neff, 95 U.S. 714, 735, 24 L.Ed. 565.2 The contract was delivered in California, the premiums were mailed from there and the insured was a resident of that State when he died. It cannot be denied that California has a manifest interest in providing effective means of redress for its residents when their insurers refuse to pay claims. These residents would be at a severe disadvantage if they were forced to follow the insurance company to a distant State in order to hold it legally accountable. When claims were small or moderate individual claimants freguently could not afford the cost of bringing an action in a foreign forum—thus in effect making the company judgment proof. Often the crucial witnesses—as here on the company's defense of suicide—will be found in the insured's locality. Of course there may be inconvenience to the insurer if it is held amenable to suit in California where it had this contract but certainly nothing which amounts to a denial of due process. Cf. Travelers Health Ass'n v. Commonwealth of Virginia ex rel. State Corporation Comm., 339 U.S. 643, 70 S.Ct. 927, 94 L.Ed. 1154. There is no contention that respondent did not have adequate notice of the suit or sufficient time to prepare its defenses and appear.

The California statute became law in 1949, after respondent had entered into the agreement with Franklin to assume Empire Mutual's obligation to him. Respondent contends that application of the statute to this existing contract improperly impairs the obligation of the contract. We believe that contention is devoid of merit. The statute was remedial, in the purest sense of that term, and neither enlarged nor impaired respondent's substantive rights or obligations under the contract. It did nothing more than to provide petitioner with a California forum to enforce whatever substantive rights she might have against respondent. At the same time respondent was given a reasonable time to appear and defend on the merits after being notified of the suit. Under such circumstances it had no vested right not to be sued in California. Cf. Bernheimer v. Converse, 206 U.S. 516, 27 S.Ct. 755, 51 L.Ed. 1163; National Surety Co. v. All offers will be evaluated by Circuit City and representatives of the creditors' committee, and the highest bidders could enter a final auction on Jan. 15. A hearing to approve the sale will be held in a Richmond, Va., bankruptcy court on Friday. That's when the company's credit facility expires and the retailer will be unable to continue operations.

Circuit City said in court papers that allowing it to continue operating on a national or regional basis through a buyout or alternative financing would be in the best interests of the company and its creditors. It said it is “optimistic” that it could strike such a deal with one of its as yet unnamed white-knight bidders.Speculation on their identities centers on Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego, a banking, broadcasting and retail tycoon who controls 28 percent of Circuit City shares, and dissident shareholder Mark Wattles, who forced a shakeup of the company's board and senior management and may be looking to meld it with Ultimate Electronics.
